Each week, Advice Wars highlights the best and worst events in the financial advice industry.
The Good
Janet Leveaux from ThinkAdvisor.com published the second edition of the publications “Top Women in Wealthtech Innovation”. Comprised of innovators from companies such as Riskalyze, BlackRock, Commonwealth and more, the list is a “who’s who?” of the women leading the wealth management industry forward.
Congratulations to my friend Chris Paulitz and many others at the Financial Services Institute (FSI) for pushing association healthcare across the finish line. Affordable healthcare is critical for the independent financial advisor space to attract the best and brightest talent to the advice industry. See FA-Mag for the full story.
Kudos to Envestnet’s Interim CEO Bill Crager for receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2020 Private Asset Management Awards. I admire Bill for many of his accomplishments during his successful career, but none of them more than how he has handled the sudden loss of his partner and friend Jud Bergman last fall. Well deserved Bill!
The Bad
New developments in the blockbuster college admissions scandal saw former PIMCO CEO Douglas Hodge receive a 9-month sentence for paying some $850,000 in bribes to ringleader Rick Singer and various other recipients. The Ugly

Lawyers for King Ponzi Bernie Madoff filed a motion this week requesting a “compassionate release” for the billion-dollar fraudster. The 81-year-old Madoff suffers from terminal kidney failure and is estimated to have less than 18 months to live.
